Well I don't really know what to write about.. This area is certainly pretty fun. It's difficult to be apart of two wards, but Elder Robinson and I are doing our best to work with everyone and have some good ideas of how we want to do that. We have been making changes to how "office elders" work and are probably working much harder than any office Elders ever have before.. at least in awhile perhaps. We get out and go to work at 12:00 everyday if possible, unless president wants us to do other things. We are basically in charge of ordering media supplies and sending out media referrals to the missionaries in the rest of the mission. And aside from that.. we just do whatever jobs President McConkie wants us to do.
Well, I am moving again! Kinda annoying and tiring but we are getting a new apartment, ours is currently falling apart and has an attic full of mold. It's gross. But we are planning on moving out today, so hopefully that goes well.
The family that got baptized last weekend is amazing! I love that family, they are so elect and were so prepared for the Gospel! Members are the single most important part in missionary work! So mom and dad you better fellowship those new members! Love them, call them, serve them, have fun with them! Teach them, testify to them.. do everything possible in your power to take care of them! OH! And remember what President Hunter said!
"No member should EVER be heard to say, '..the missionaries baptized them before they were ready..'"
The members need to know that missionaries only baptize people who keep commitments and understand why they are getting baptized. So as I've heard President McConkie say, new members are to be treated and cared for just like new born babies.. and yeah I totally agree.. Now! That's not to say that sometimes people do get baptized with a very small knowledge and understanding but the missionaries ARE AWARE of that when that happens. And another Elder here in the mission made a good point about that.. "pre-mature babies need even more attention and care".. And yes sometimes people just go inactive right away despite all efforts from the members and the missionaries; things like this happen when the recent converts neglect their own testimony.. (stop praying, stop reading, stop caring) and its really no fault of anyone else. It does happen.
Anyway, the work is slowly taking off here, but we are going to do our best to get it really going! One of our biggest goals is to work with the members! I hope everyone is well! I'm doing pretty good myself thanks! I miss you all! Keeping doing cool and good things. If you have any questions or things let me know! And remember what President Hinckley said:
“Things will work out. Keep trying. Be believing. Be happy. Don’t get discouraged.
Things will work out.”
Oh cool story! So last transfer when I was with Elder McRae, we found this cool lady named Kelly, that we taught about 2-3 times I think, and anyway she was really cool, but was going to leave the area and go to school so we were bummed but asked her if it would be alright if the missionaries up there contacted her and she was alright with that. Anyway that was probably about 7 weeks ago.. about two days ago, I decided to call up Elder Jacobson (way cool missionary) and ask him if things ever went anywhere with Kelly (he was one of the missionaries in the area who would teach her if they could get a hold of each other). And he said, "Oh actually things went good with her and shes getting baptized on Saturday." Man I was SO excited to hear that it was an awesome blessing to hear that, so tonight is her baptism! I remember when I first called Elder Jacobson to give him her info, I told him "Okay, Elder you have to see her, she is totally awesome and she will get baptized".. and the other day when I found this out I had to thank him for being such an awesome missionary, heh. So that was a cool blessing! But THEN I got a call from someone who said, "Hello.. yeah do you guys teach out in Columbia?.. and this guy was talking weird but I said yes, and then He said, "Let me ask you a question.. Is Nephi, Jesus Christ's brother?" and I totally knew who it was so I said, "Only if this is Brother Newkirk!".. and it was, it was probably more funny to me, but that would be David, my first Baptism! He just wanted to call and see how I was doing and told me he wanted to come visit me. So that was an awesome blessing.. and "what more added to my joy" was that I had found out about a week ago, that one of my other baptisms is going to go on a mission! Those were some awesome tender mercies of the Lord right there!
I really love the Gospel and know that what we teach is true! I am so grateful that I know that, and that I know it independent of any man or woman, independent of the internet or of actual proof and evidence or what anyone anywhere has ever told me. I know the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true because God himself told me! What a great blessing prayer is! I knew by the power of the Holy Ghost at age 12 that the church we represent is Christ's true church, and at the age of 16 that the Book of Mormon was indeed a true record of God! I love my mission, I am hardly a great missionary but all I want to do is to find, teach and baptize! This work is literally impossible by means of any man. No man can do this work. I know that this work is only possibly by means of the Holy Ghost. I testify of these things, that I do know that they are true! In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
LOVE YOU ALL!
